Grant R. McAdams

Mr. McAdams has nearly a decade of experience advising clients on all aspects of intellectual property law.  His expertise includes US and foreign patent prosecution, trademark prosecution, IP strategy, and overall IP development and management, including IP licensing, IP related due diligence, and opinion work.

Mr. McAdams has drafted and prosecuted patent applications for companies in all stages of their life cycle, from start-ups to well-established multinational corporations.  His areas of expertise range from medical devices to mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies, including stents, catheters, endoscopes, diagnostics, electronics, software, materials, construction equipment, sporting goods, and security systems.

He holds a B.S. degree in biomedical engineering from Michigan Technological University and earned his J.D. degree from UCLA School of Law. During law school, he was a member of the Journal of International Law and Foreign Affairs. He is a registered foreign lawyer in Japan, is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and is a member of the California State Bar and Tokyo Bar Association.  He works out of the Tokyo and Palo Alto, California offices.

10年近くにわたり、米国の特許起草や出願、商標出願や知的財産戦略など、知的財産に関わる法律事務全般を専門としています。業務には、ライセンス、知的財産に関するデューデリジェンスやコンサルティング活動も含まれます。

これまで、スタートアップ企業から大手グローバル企業に至るまで、企業の成長ステージのあらゆる段階で特許申請書の起草や出願を手掛けてきました。専門分野は、ステント、カテーテル、内視鏡、診断、電子機器、ソフトウェア、材料、建設機械、スポーツ用品、セキュリティシステムなど、医療機器から機械・電気機械技術まで多岐にわたります。

ミシガン工科大学工学部バイオメディカルエンジニアリング学科を卒業後、カリフォルニア大学ロサンゼルス校ロースクールで法務博士号を取得しました。ロースクール時代には、同校の国際法と外交問題ジャーナルの会員でした。日本における外国法事務弁護士および米国特許商標庁に対して手続きを行う弁護士として登録されており、カリフォルニア州弁護士会会員および東京弁護士会外国特別会員です。東京とカリフォルニア州パロアルトのオフィスで勤務しています。
